its not just ridicule. should they say that he is the shooter and not the alleged shooter the can be sued for slander because he technically isn't yet. Not only that but they can cause a mistrial on the grounds of a biased jury that walked into the trial thinking he is guilty. If that happens the bad guy walks and no one wants that.

it does provide that you are innocent until proven guilty...it also provides a jury of your peers which can only convict you if there is no shadow of doubt of your guilt...i do believe that in this case there is no shadow of doubt...the constitution was based on the fact that the guilty would be punished...in todays society they arent punished but are provided a life free of work and responibilties...all of which is paid for by working americans...its pathetic how soft the legal sytem has become

i knew i liked you for some reason...i too am licensed to carry...26 states honor the louisiana concealed handgun permit so thats great for traveling...i never leave home without it...i carry all day every day...

I personally feel that life would be better with more strict gun rules. Don't get me wrong, guns for hunting (which I don't like, but can tolerate) is fine. But owning a gun that you can carry around is nuts!

In Canada (at least Manitoba), rules are soooo strict. If you have a gun, it has to be for hunting or shooting range purposes. And in order to transport said gun, you have to go and get a specific license for that specific time. When the gun is not in use it has to be kept in a safe at home, and when transported in your car it has to kept in a safe there too.

I just feel overall more safe having guns be illegal to carry around. I realize that yes, most gun owners are responsible and wouldn't go around shooting people, BUT it still does raise the possibility having them so readily available.

A story from when I first moved down here:

My cousin, his gf, my little brothers (8 and 10), and I were driving home from a state fair at night. My cousin was driving, and accidentally cut someone off. He waved an apology but the guy went nuts, drove up beside us (on oncoming traffic) and forced him to pull over meanwhile screaming the whole time. He got out of the car screaming, swearing etc towards us. My cousin and his gf were quiet and not saying anything. So I got angry and yelled back him to leave us alone, and that there were little kids in the car etc etc. Finally he left, and I asked why they were so quiet during it. He went on to remind me that guns are legal in the US, and you never know who has one (we weren't in the best neighborhood) so to be careful who you yell at. I would NEVER have thought about that, or worried about that. So was just a surreal moment.

Anywho, thats my thoughts! Different culture, different beliefs! No offense intended. I may be biased as I've never held a gun, or even seen one other than on a cop.

Another note: I was at a bar one time, and there was a shooting that night with the guy beside me getting shot in the foot. I may also be biased that way as well >.<

I know I own lots of guns and i respect your opinion. I believe in the right to bare arms and I'm also a responsible gun owner. Very tough subject this day and age. Especially when people are shooting people for the hell of it. But for that same reason i carry one with me because IMO I have the right to protect myself against the gun yielding idiots.

I hope people don't think less of me for my beliefs on this issue.

Of course not! I respect people's right to carry them responsibly. It would just never be me, and I think I'd run away scared if I saw someone carrying one

WOW a civil discussion on guns....i love it...i do respect everyones opinion and love to hear it...i love my guns but also respect people that have different views...i have used my carry gun 3 times but have never fired it during a confrontation...i am so glad of that...it was the fact that i had a gun that stopped the situation from escalating into something that may have caused me to be in a position to defend myself with deadly force...in my state the anal probing that you go through for a carry license is pretty severe...they know everything about you...when people ask me why i carry a gun i tell them its the same reason why you wear a seatbelt...when you get in your car do you expect to be in a car wreck???NO but you wear your seatbelt just incase...when i put my gun on everyday i do not expect to use it but i have it just incase....i hope i carry my gun for the rest of my days and never have to use it...but if i need it, it's there with me...the safety of my wife and children are far too important

I respect all opinions ,and will never knock somebody else for there opinion . I happen to grow up in the country and in a lifestyle that on your key B day you got a gun , I went to every safety course I had to as a teen . Now as a adult I am just use to a gun , Im use to carrying a gun , i dont fear the gun and i dont fear what I might have to someday use it . I have pulled my gun one time in my life and that was when a guy was threatening bodily harm to my folks over a stupid situation and the guy had been drinking . I didnt have to shoot but the sight of the gun alone caused the guy to back off , piss down his leg and realize he had picked the wrong old people to pick on . I have been in several situation were i could have pulled but chose not to. But the piece of mind of having it with me makes me feel more secure . The key words i use :Dont ever take a knife to a gun fight .

Most of the shootings that take place today are done by duranged people and i agree they should not be able to get or own a gun . Guns should be owned by responsible people

I think the main thing I am realizing is how different the southern states are from the northern states/Canada in these regards. Its interesting, as I've discuss it with people up here and generally they have the same view as me.

I'm kind of intrigued and am thinking I want to take a trip down the the South to experience this culture! Any cities/states people recommend?

Id be more than happy to show you around Colorado should you get out this way darlin ..................and as for guns....i grew up in CO and i call it home but have traveled all over the US with work. I find that the attitudes towards guns changes dramaticly depending on where your at. I personaly do not have a conceal carry permit, that being said there is generally been a weapon within reach virtually anytime i needed one, which has been more than once unfortunatly. Luckly ive never had to discharge one to get my point across, all thou i do believe if you point a gun at someone you better be willing to kill them, theres no point pointing a gun at someone to scare them...ok rant done

I find the sound of a cocking .357 does the trick quit well, but not near as good as the slide on a 12 GA

My choice is 9MM , Ammo is cheaper however I own 4 357's and 2 45'S I also just bought a 2 380's at auction that make nice carry pieces . But for the home invader I break out the Pistol grip riot 12GA loaded with rubber pellet Riot bullets .

I spent 10 days in Toronto on Business a couple years ago and learned Quickly that you really dont need to carry there cause the people are friendly accpet and this a BIG ACCEPT :the homeless men that live around the streets , We were comign back from a meeting my wife and I and they wouldnt stop touching my wife Luckily before I attempted to lay them out the door man from our hotel had been keeping a eye on the situation and he had hotel security come over and escort us back to the hotel , the issue is IF i had hit one of them i would have been arrested , and he would have got a free meal . back home here I would have tazered him . but I must say it only happened 1 time , the rest of our stay was fabulous and we walked all over town without fear .

there is no such place that one doesnt need to carry...one of those homeless guys could had easily had a knife...i go no place that i cant carry my gun except my kids school and i personaly know the police officer that is on guard there...he shoots almost as much as i do...almost...

Wont disagree but what i learned there was there not viloent they just try to piss you off to where you will hit them they get off the street for the day and get a hot meal .

nothin like three hots and a cot to make a homeless guy happy...lol...
