I don't find local or national news very informative. It's mainly a vehicle to sell advertisements. Like the saying goes, "If it bleeds, it leads". The way "news" is defined is problematic; it's almost always bad news. War, hurricanes, murder, inflation, etc. Or stupid shit like Paris Hilton's dog or Lindsey Lohan's crotch. "Plane lands safely at O'Hara airport", isn't news. Anybody who thinks they have a clue about what's really happening in the world by just watching the news is sadly mistaken. The Internet is somewhat better if you're focused and disciplined enough to wade thru all the crap that's posted. But one look at the ratings for Youtube videos shows not many people are. If you posted a video of Paris Hilton's dog licking Lindsey Lohan's crotch, I guarantee it would be ranked "Most Veiwed". I'm no better. I'd rather watch a video of BTS massaging her boobs then George Bush explain why "Scooter" Libby ought to be pardoned.

A debate on news and media could probably go on indefinitely. But I will add that any news that I have had personal knowledge of is always WAY off when covered by the media. So I start wondering, what percentage of their stories is actually accurate.

And I've always maintained that the highest concentration of idiots on the internet is at youtube. I just look at the comments section of, say, ANY video and I am worried about the future of the human race.
this comic says it all.

Well I for one am glad local news still has the ability to show stories of both a local nature and an international one. It shows how insignificant it really is that someone's house burnt down in suburbia but they all got out alive when hundreds get killed in a terrorist attack and it barely rates a mention. Not only a terrorist attack, but an attack bought on by our government's support of the US led invasion of Iraq

I'm actually getting a little deffensive, haha. I'm not sure why I'm defending the media in the U.S. but, I'm sure things are much more open and wordly focused over in Australia. I do think that we're giving you a misleading impression of the news over here though... oh well.

I promise though.... not all Americans are stupid, self-centered, bush-supporting fatties who think that what's on the news is everything going on in the world.

I think that argument has skewed from my initial rant that some major events aren't as well covered in the US mainstream news as they are elsewhere in the world. That's all really

Darling I know not all Americans like that. Every summer I meet a lot of Americans as they flood the place along with people from Europe and the UK to spend the Southern Hemisphere summer in and around Sydney. I actually dig alotta of Americans, really cool people. I have found a love/hate thing though. I mean I either love em or they drive me fucking insane, same thing can be seen on this board.

Your first paragraph is precisely my rant.
