He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas) is the leading advocate for freedom in our nation’s capital. As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Paul tirelessly works for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies. He is known among his congressional colleagues and his constituents for his consistent voting record. Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution

I know nothing about American polotics but they all start out that clean until they get into office, then they fuck you and us and everyone all over! Happens in every democratic nation!

I agree. I'm not much of a fan of politicians or the way offices are run. I'm sure it's a high stress job that involves dissatisfying a lot of people.

My opinion is that if you took a huge chunk out of the salary and took away the sickening amounts of power that politicians have, you'd have a lot less corruption. Can you imagine how great a country could be if the people who ran it took that position because they love their country and want to make positive changes, rather than just a big paycheck and power trip?

I live in a moderatly large suburban village of 42,000 people. It's run like a corporation rather than government. And our village president barely gets paid and is actually an insurance agent in town. other offices are similar in our town. Every person in office ran for their position because they have great pride in our village and want to make it great. Now, it's not prefect... we still have a hard time making decisions here because you will never be able to please everybody, but I think the spirit of the politics is in the right place... and that's a great building block.

But in the words of the great linguist, philosopher, and rabblerouser Dennis Miller: That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Mike Bloomburg would make a great president. He's surly not in politics for the money. He's smart, pragmatic, and knows how to get things done. There's an interesting aticle about him in this weeks "US News & World Report".

I'm a Scot, but my best pals in the US all seem to be telling me that Ron Paul's the man .. I'm not following the US election process that closely (we have enough shit happening here as Gordon Brown is "gifted" the leadership of the UK from Tony Blair... not exactly democracy in action ...), but from what I can read of the guy (Ron Paul), he'd probably get my vote. I'm for lower taxes, small government, strong defence and security, welfare/health systems that are the minimum necessary to meet needs "free at the point of use" (we do this in the UK, but not sure that you Americans have achieved this yet?) and, above all, the fostering of self-reliance in people ... hey, maybe I'm American huh?

As much as of a douche nozzle as our provincial premier is, the mayor of our city is pretty good. He doesn't profess any membership of any particular political party, and he genuinely seems to have the best interest of the city in mind. He goes way above and beyond his job to help improve this place. Plus he was instrumental in bringing the Stones here fo not one, but 2 sold out shows, which were the largest grossing concerts in Canadian history and on the top 10 list for 2006 for all of N. America, but that's another story. Some of our recent econmic boom has to be credited to the energy sector, but our mayor has had a lot to do with it to.

I thought I read somewhere that the British parliment is paid pretty poorly. Can someone confirm this, or tell me I'm full of shit.
