Alright so maybe I'm just a big loser, geek, nerd, loser, whatever you want to call it. I was just curious if anyone else was in anticipation for the release of the last Harry Potter book. I will be at the store Friday night to be 1 of the first in the midwest to purchase.

And to help encourage responses in this thread (although it may need to be moved) pictures of any lovely ladies holding the book would be very nice

the family went to the new harry potter movie last evening , they all gave it a 2 on a scale of 1=10 , they said it was really slow and boring and My son loves potter .

My day job is the electronics dept manager at Wally World. Im also in charge of the friday night hoopla at my store We just got 1120 copies of the hardback, 8 copies of the book on CD and 6 copies of this ultra hardback extra nice set We are sworn not to reveal the ending to anyone .... but I have heard of the book getting stolen and scanned and out on the torrents right now

me neither, although once when I still had my pirated satellite, I was drunk and stopped on Harry Potter for some reason on ppv and they were in a life sized chess game. That's as much as I've ever seen. It's aimed at kids but some adults like it too I guess.

I wasn't kidding when I said J.K.Rowling was worth 1.1 Billion dollars. I've never read a line of any of her books or watch a minute of the movies but millions have. She's sold 325 million copies of Harry Potter. Cman wasn't kidding either when he said those books are under lock and key until Friday night.

Welp Harry Potter event at Wally went off without a hitch... one bitch customer out of the 400 that showed up to get their copy.... had two pallets , got rid of one. I spear headed it .. had a trivia contest ... food... some of the crew dressed up...played the Potter Flicks on the TV's. They had a cape for me but where I am a beast it looked goofy on me so i opted for all black clothing with a celtic cross around my neck to give it that magic feel.

What made my entire evening was this young girl who came in dressed as Hermoinie. She was the only one who came dressed as any of the Potter gang as far a customers go. Her grandmother had bought her to get her book. She was a courteous patient girl. She took her pictures with all of the dressed crew and her grandmother told me while we were taking pics " She has been waiting all day to come and get her book. Her father, who is terminaly ill gave her the money to come get her book." Well I was giving out gift cards for the contest prizes and basically gave her a gift card just for putting for the effort. So she baiscally got half off her book price. It made the what little bit of pissing and moaning other folks were doing all that easier to deal with. To know that this little girl who took the time and who was such a Harry Potter fan to dress up and was going through so much in her young life, could be so well behaved. She even came up and thanked me later after she got her book.

It sounds sappy I know. But I don't give a fuck. I am a sap when it comes to getting my faith renewed in people after dealing with fucking crabastic cocksuckers on a daily basis.

Almost all the time they suck. I'll bet there's over a thousand writers trying to figure out why Harry Potter was so huge so they can cash in. Nobody will be able to so all those books they write are just going to be crap.

I know I'm chiming in late, but who cares:

I think Harry Potter is great. I got into it a little after the 4th one was released. It's a great easy read... and it usually goes pretty quickly too. It's good for reading while gearing up for your next intellectual read.

I enjoyed all the books. Number 5 was my least favorite, though. It was borderline boring and very exhausting to read, but it did have some necessary information in it, so it couldn't be done without. It was kind of like reading 3d posts. Not exactly desireable, but necessary to understand all the jokes.

I think the movies brought a lot of attention to the series, but also may have ruined the experience ( and yes, it is an experience) for people who would have otherwise enjoyed the series. Had I seen the first movie before reading any of the books I never would have been a fan.

Okay.  i still think you're crazy!  Magic is pretty a stereotyped genre and underdog heroism is the subject of probably about 75% of novels out there.  so while two different stories may appear similar, I wouldn't exactly call one of them a ripoff of the other.  Now, I never read the books of Magic series, but I did just read some reviews.  I'll say I am now interested in check it out; but based on the reviews and the synopses, HP is no more a ripoff of books of magic than family guy is of the Simpsons... i'd say probably even less. 

You are out of your mind, that's for sure, and I have no idea why I'm even attempting engagement in a conversation with you, but I figured, what the hell.
